Northeast Academy - A Christian School
Founded in 1966, Northeast Academy was intended from its beginning to be a pleasant place to learn, an opportunity for a quality Christian education, and a school where the founding parents could exercise hands-on supervision of the curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the educational environment.
Located in Lasker, North Carolina, Northeast Academy originally offered instruction in grades one through ten, with G. W. Davis leading a faculty of six (including the headmaster) and a student body of thirty-two. Joey Davis of Seaboard was the first student enrolled in the school. The Bible was the first book placed in the library.
In 1969 Northeast Academy graduated its first three seniors: Marshall Coker, Evelyn Herring and Ray Wood. Each year since that time, Northeast Academy has graduated young people who have gone on to do very well in a diverse range of activities.
The school board, with a membership of fifteen, operates the school under a charter granted by the State of North Carolina. From the beginning, the school has been funded by tuition, contributions, and fund-raising activities. In 2014 Northeast Academy began accepting the North Carolina Opportunity Scholarship which has allowed even more students to benefit from our educational program.
In 2022 Northeast Academy celebrated our 55th Anniversary and graduated our 1000th student.
It continues to be the aim of Northeast Academy to offer any young person, whose parents are willing and able to make the necessary sacrifices, an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, to earn a good education, to develop social and citizenship skills, and to become a part of a caring community of friends.
Meet Our New Head of School: Dr. Mary Earp
Northeast Academy is pleased to welcome Dr. Mary Earp as our new Head of School. Dr. Mary brings more than three decades of experience in education, serving in a variety of teaching and administrative roles throughout her career. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Carolina University, a Master of Arts in Education with a focus in mathematics from UNC-Chapel Hill, a Master of School Administration from North Carolina State University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from North Carolina State University.
Dr. Mary is passionate about creating meaningful educational opportunities for students while supporting teachers, families, and the entire school community. As Northeast Academy celebrates 60 years of tradition and excellence, she looks forward to building upon the school’s strong foundation, honoring its history, and helping lead Northeast Academy into an exciting future. We are excited to welcome Dr. Mary to the Northeast Academy family and look forward to all that lies ahead under her leadership.
Meet Our Student Resource Administrator: Christopher Davis
Northeast Academy is pleased to welcome Christopher Davis as our new School Resource Administrator.
Mr. Davis joins Northeast Academy following a distinguished career in law enforcement. He served his entire career with the Weldon Police Department, advancing through the ranks as a Police Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Detective, and ultimately leading the department as Chief of Police.
In addition to his extensive leadership background, Mr. Davis brings a strong commitment to higher education and continuous learning. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Elizabeth City State University, an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, and an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
He is also a certified Instructor through the North Carolina Education and Training Standards Commission.
